Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul will undergo knee surgery, with an expected recovery time of about three weeks.

Leafs coach Randy Carlyle said at Monday's practice that Lupul will undergo a meniscus procedure.

Toronto has three road games remaining on its schedule, beginning with Tuesday night's contest in Tampa Bay. The Leafs have only a slim mathematical chance of making the Eastern Conference playoffs, meaning that Lupul is essentially done for the year.

Lupul was scratched from the team's overtime win last week against Boston. He returned in a home loss to Winnipeg on Saturday, but played just 12 minutes.

Lupul will finish the season with 22 goals and 22 assists in 69 regular-season games, with a minus-15 rating.

The 30-year-old left wing was in his third full season with Toronto after being acquired from Anaheim during the 2010-11 season.

Lupul, whose career was nearly derailed by a nerve problem in his back while with the Ducks, has endured absences for shoulder, elbow, foot and groin injuries since joining the Maple Leafs.
