The Winnipeg Jets signed unrestricted free agent forward Alexei Ponikarovsky on Sunday.

After spending the first decade of his NHL career with Toronto, Ponikarovsky joins his fifth club in just over two years.

The 32-year-old Kiev native split time with Carolina and New Jersey the past season. He contributed to the Devils' post-season run, with eight goals and 19 assists in 57 regular season and playoff games.

His NHL career has also included stops with Pittsburgh and Los Angeles, with career totals of 135 goals and 179 assists in 636 NHL games, with 405 penaly minutes.have re-signed defenceman Derek Meech to a two-way deal after an injury-shortened season.

The 28-year-old returned for the St. John's IceCaps' AHL playoff run, contributing four goals and five assists in 15 games.

Meech has four goals and 12 assists in 128 NHL games with Detroit and Winnipeg.

The five-foot-11, 196-pound blue-liner was drafted by the Red Wings 229th overall in 2002.
