Michael Dal Colle scored twice and assisted on three others as the Oshawa Generals crushed the visiting Mississauga Steelheads 6-0 on Friday to take Game 1 of their Ontario Hockey League first-round matchup.
Oshawa's Daniel Althsuller made 21 saves for his first-career post-season shutout.
Hunter Smith matched Dal Colle's five-point outing with a goal and four assists while Josh Sterk added a pair of goals for the Generals.
Spencer Martin started in net for Mississauga and allowed five goals on 38 shots before giving way to Chase Marchand, who stopped 5-of-6 shots in nine minutes of relief.
Otters 4, Spirit 3
ERIE, Pa. — Andre Burakovsky scored twice and Dane Fox had a goal and an assist as the Otters edged Saginaw to take Game 1 of their first-round tilt.
Connor Brown also scored for Erie, which went 3 for 5 on the power play, while Brendan Gaunce and Travis Dermott each had a pair of assists.
Eric Locke and Kristof Kontos each had a goal and two assists for the Spirit, who failed to score on three chances with the man advantage, and Luke Cairns added a single deal.
Devin Williams made 25 saves for the Otters while Jake Paterson turned aside 44-of-48 shots in defeat.
Frontenacs 4, Petes 1
KINGSTON, Ont. — Matt Mahalak made 28 saves and Darcy Greenaway had a goal and an assist as the Frontenacs opened their first-round matchup against Peterborough with a victory.
Samuel Schutt, Henri Ikonen and Corey Pawley also scored for Kingston.
Greg Betzhold scored the lone goal for the Petes as Andrew D'Agostini kicked out 39-of-43 shots in a losing cause.
The Frontenacs went 0 for 2 on the power play while Peterborough failed to score on four opportunities.
Attack 5, Greyhounds 4 (OT)
SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Kyle Platzer scored 2:40 into overtime to give Owen Sound a 1-0 series lead against the Greyhounds.
Zach Nastasiuk had a pair of goals for the Attack and Daniel Milne added a goal and two assists.
Jared McCann led the Greyhounds offensively with two goals and Bryan Moore had a goal and an assist.
Owen Sound's Brandon Hope made 31 saves for the win as Matt Murray stopped 30-of-35 shots for Sault Ste. Marie.
Storm 5, Whalers 2
GUELPH, Ont. — Brock McGinn had a goal and an assist and Justin Nichols made 19 saves as the Storm downed Plymouth in Game 1 of their first-round clash.
Jason Dickinson, Stephen Pierog, Pius Suter and Scott Kosmachuk also scored for Guelph.
Carter Sandlak and Connor Chatham scored for the Whalers and Ryan Hartman assisted on both.
Plymouth's Alex Nedeljkovic turned away 34-of-38 shots in a losing cause.
Knights 6, Spitfires 1
LONDON, Ont. — Gemel Smith scored once and set up two more and Anthony Stolarz made 26 stops as the Knights toppled Windsor in Game 1 of their first-round matchup.
Josh Anderson, Chris Tierney, Bo Horvat, Michael McCarron and Owen MacDonald also scored for London, which led 5-0 after 40 minutes of action.
The Spitfires got their lone goal from Ben Johnson at 5:48 of the third period.
Windsor's Alex Fotinos turned aside 31-of-37 shots in defeat.
Battalion 4, Icedogs 0
NORTH BAY, Ont. — Jake Smith stopped all 28 shots his way as the Battalion blanked Niagara to go ahead 1-0 in their first-round series.
Barclay Goodrow had a goal and an assist for North Bay while Dylan Blujus, Connor Jarvis and Alex Henriksson added the others.
Brent Moran stopped 23-of-27 shots for the IceDogs.
Niagara and the Battalion split their regular-season series 3-3.
