Devils' Langenbrunner to miss next 2 games
New Jersey captain Jaime Langenbrunner will miss the next two games with a lower body injury, according to Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello.
Langenbrunner was hurt during the team's 2-1 overtime loss the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night and did not travel to Raleigh, N.C., where Games 3 and 4 will be played.
"Jamie Langenbrunner will not be with us on this trip," said Lamoriello on Saturday. "He'll be out these next two games. We'll see how he is when we get back. He's not out of the series."
Langenbrunner limped off the ice with five minutes remaining in the second period. He sat on the bench briefly before heading to the dressing room.
He has not been available for comment.
"We don't know exactly where it transpired, but he felt it at a certain point," said Lamoriello. "He will be out these next two games. It's too early to tell if he can play in Game 5. We certainly hope so."
Coach Brent Sutter used Patrik Elias in Langennbrunner's spot for the rest of Game 2, but could play Brian Rolston there for Game 3 on Sunday night (7:30 p.m. ET).
"Obviously your captain is coming out of the lineup," Sutter said. "It'll give someone else an opportunity."
Sutter would not say Bobby Holik would play. Holik has been a healthy scratch from the first two games.
"I'm looking forward to the opportunity," Rolston said. "With Jamie out, maybe I'll be given the opportunity to play the point on the first power play unit. I'm not nervous about it. I'm ready for whatever he gives me."
The Devils are Hurricanes are tied in their Eastern Conference quarter-finals series at a game apiece.
