The NHL suspended Phoenix Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal two games for charging Edmonton Oilers defenceman Jedd Petry during a game on Saturday in Arizona.

The NHL suspended Phoenix Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal two games for charging Edmonton Oilers defenceman Jedd Petry during a game on Saturday in Arizona.

The National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced on Monday Hanzal will be banned without pay after being considered a repeat offender.

Based on his average annual salary, the 26-year-old from Czech Republic will forfeit $75,609.76 US and the money will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred during the first period of the game and Hanzal was given a minor penalty.
