CHL playoffs: Spirit edge Otters in high-scoring tilt
Saginaw prevails in 7-6 contest to take Game 3
Spirit 7, Otters 6
SAGINAW, Mich. — Cody Payne scored 4:13 into overtime and Jake Paterson stopped 46 shots as the Saginaw Spirit edged the visiting Erie Otters 7-6 on Monday to take Game 3 in their Ontario Hockey League first-round playoff series.
Dylan Sadowy and Jimmy Lodge each had a pair of goals for the Spirit while Eric Locke and Jacob Ringuette scored a goal apiece.
Andre Burakovsky and Brendan Gaunce both scored twice for the Otters, who lead the series 2-1. Spencer Abraham and Adam Pelech each had a single goal.
Oscar Dansk started in net for Erie but was pulled at the 5:42 mark of the third period after allowing five goals 25 shots. Devin Williams took the loss for the Otters, stopping 11-of-13 shots in 17 minutes of relief.
Greyhounds 5, Attack 3
OWEN SOUND, Ont. — Darnell Nurse scored twice and Matt Murray kicked out 35 shots as Sault Ste. Marie toppled the Attack to take Game 3 and go up 2-1 in their first-round matchup.
Andrew Fritsch, Dylan Corson and Jean Dupuy also scored for the Greyhounds while Tyler Gaudet, Sergey Tolchinksy and Alex Gudbranson added two assists apiece.
Thomas Schemitsch, Zach Nastasiuk and Kyle Hope scored for Owen Sound.
Attack netminder Brandon Hope made 27 saves in a losing cause.
Armada 4, Wildcats 1
MONCTON, N.B. — The Blainville-Boisbriand Armada scored three times in the final two minutes of the third period to defeat the host Moncton Wildcats 4-1 on Monday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff action.
Danick Martel broke a 1-1 deadlock at 18:31 of the third for the Armada, who now lead the best-of-seven first-round match up 2-1, while Nikita Jevpalovs and Ryan Tesink added two more in the last minute of regulation time.
Philippe Sanche opened the scoring for Blainville-Boisbriand at 7:16 of the first period while Etienne Marcoux made 17 saves for the win.
Vladimir Tkachev responded for the Wildcats 12:53 into the third. Alex Dubeau stopped 31-of-34 shots in a losing cause.
Hitmen 7, Ice 6
CRANBROOK, B.C. — Greg Chase scored 5:05 into overtime as the Calgary Hitmen edged the host Kootenay Ice 7-6 on Monday in Game 3 of their Western Hockey League first-round playoff series.
Radel Fazleev and Landon Welykholowa each had a pair of goals for the Hitmen, who lead the series 2-1, Adam Tambellini had a goal and two assists and Travis Sanheim added a single goal.
Jaedon Descheneau scored once and set up five more for the Ice, Jagger Dirk had two goals and two assists and Sam Reinhart had a goal and four assists. Zach Franko and Luke Philp also scored to round out Kootenay's offence.
Calgary's Chris Driedger made 25 saves for the win. Mackenzie Skapski allowed seven goals on 28 shots for the Ice.
