The NHL's Department of Player Safety has suspended Columbus Blue Jackets forward Blake Comeau for two games for boarding Detroit Red Wings defenceman Brendan Smith.

The incident occurred at 12:47 of the first period Tuesday in Columbus. Comeau received a two-minute penalty on the play.

The Meadow Lake, Sask. native has three goals and nine assists in 46 games this season.

Columbus acquired the forward from the Calgary Flames at the trade deadline last year for a fifth-round draft pick.

Comeau will forfeit $10,256.42 US in salary. He is eligible to return when Columbus hosts Carolina on Tuesday.
