A Swedish prosecutor has ordered the arrest of former NHL enforcer Andre Deveaux after he slashed an unsuspecting opponent during warmups prior to a second-tier pro game last week.

The 31-year-old Deveaux, a veteran of 31 NHL games with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Rangers, attacked Vasteras IK captain Per Helmersson, who had his back to Deveaux when the Canadian whacked him on the leg.

"He is wanted on suspicion of assault," prosecutor MargaretaDanielsson-Olvontold European news agency The Local"An investigation is ongoing. We don't know where he is and have put out a warrant for his arrest."

Deveaux was unapologetic after the incident and was allowed to play in Rogle BK's playoff victory.

"[Helmersson] was fine. I'll think about him while I celebrate with the team," Deveaux said.

Rogle announced Monday in a press release that it had terminated Deveaux's contract after just 20 games with the team.

"His actions are indefensible," team chairman Hakan Eriksson said.
