Each week, Hockey Night in Canada's Scott Morrison breaks down the balance of power in the National Hockey League. Here are this week's top six teams, bottom six teams and Canadian rankings.

Top 6

1. VANCOUVER CANUCKS
Record: 34-10-9 (77 pts)
Last 10 games: 6-1-3

It appears that Salo may be close to returning, much needed help for the blue-line.
2. PHILADELPHIA FLYERS
Record: 35-13-5 (75 pts)
Last 10 games: 8-2-0

Top offence in the NHL and the defensive numbers will improve.
3. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS
Record: 34-16-4 (72 pts)
Last 10 games: 8-2-0

No Crosby, no Malkin. The Pens have played well without both, but a very tall order ahead.
4. TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING
Record: 33-16-5 (71 pts)
Last 10 games: 7-3-0

They still need to be better defensively. Simon Gagne appears to be finding his game.
5. DETROIT RED WINGS
Record: 31-15-6 (68 pts)
Last 10 games: 4-5-1

Very strange season. Have been blanked a couple of times and rank 19th defensively.
6. WASHINGTON CAPITALS
Record: 29-15-10 (68 pts)
Last 10 games: 5-2-3

It looks like the swagger may be coming back, but much better defensively.


Bottom 6

25. NEW JERSEY DEVILS

Lemaire has turned them around and may stay next year.
26. FLORIDA PANTHERS

Will be interesting to see what they do with Vokoun.
