Hockey fights, round 2
Friday, April 11, 2008 | 12:25 PM ET
Hope you enjoyed the interview with David Singer of Hockeyfights.com yesterday on the blog, and today, as promised, here are David’s Top 10 fighters and fights of the season
Singer’s Top 10
1. Georges Laraque - His most active year since the lockout and his reputation didn't take a hit.
2. Donald Brashear - The vet had another solid year. It's no coincidence Brash and Laraque protect are on the same bench as the game's two biggest stars.
3. Derek Boogaard - Boogey fought through a tough, injury-plagued season, but he's still one of the most feared in the game for good reason: his punches hurt, bad.
4. Colton Orr - Orr also packs a big punch, and he took on all the heavyweights this season. It's not an easy job to do in the Garden.
5. D.J. King - King's finally getting his due. He's a solid heavy who took on the some of the best in the league, getting the best of many. His time could be hampered by recently acquired hometown favorite Cam Janssen.
6. Eric Godard - While anything can happen in a fight, Godard's proved on more than one occasion it will - from both sides.
7. Brian McGrattan - Didn't see a lot of action due to injury, but he's always a potential threat on the ice.
8. Wade Belak - If he's dressed, he can hang with the best of them. Hopefully he'll sign with a team this offseason that wants him somewhere other than the press box.
9. George Parros - A college man who's spent the last five seasons learning on the job. He's done well and takes chances, staying more active than any other heavyweight.
10. Darcy Hordichuk - One of few players who can seem quiet even when they have double digit fighting majors. Hordi did his job well this season, perfectly actually. 12 fighting majors, 60 penalty minutes. Not one PIM from a non-fighting penalty.
Honorable mentions have to go to: Shawn Thornton, Riley Cote and Raitis Ivanans.

How about Riley Cote in 4 of the top 10 fights? The guy is an animal, routinely outsized by the big fighters but goes with anyone and isn't a shirt grabber like so many of today's big fighters. He isn't the best but without a doubt the toughest pound-for-pound fighter in the league.

I can agree with the top ten fighters, no one has beaten Laraque in over two years so he has to remain number one. I think I would put Ivanans on the list though, he didn't fight much but he also didn't lose much, Laraque was the only one to beat him I think and it wasn't a very clear victory.

I would have put Cote higher up on the top 10 fighters list...he DOES have 4 of the top 10 fights, and he's beaten guys like Mcgrattan who is 7th on the list. He should at least have beat out Hordi, Cote may get more minors but he's also had twice as many fights AND he's beaten more top guys than anyone that size in the league.

if this is a list of top 10 fighters just of this season, i dont see how boogaard can be number 3, although hes definitely in the top 10. Colton Orr is always game having 18 fights this year and 16 of those were against legit heavyweights. And any of the other guys behind him on the list he beat so they shouldnt move up on him

I like this list, I might park Colton Orr back a bit. I just always seem to see him losing. I've seen Brashear pound him regularily, with Brashear at 2 this seems to be a bit high for him. maybe trade spots with Belak. Everyone is going to have a comment about the list, so I'm not going to hijack your blog. Big fight fan here. back in the day I used to compile a top 20 list
