What's Mats Sundin worth?
Wednesday, January 9, 2008 | 02:48 PM ET
Kelly Hrudey co-hosts Hockey Night in Canada Radio with me this afternoon at 4 p.m. ET (Sirius ch 122). Should be a good one too. We have former NHLer Darren McCarty aboard - he’s trying to make a comeback in the league and has signed a tryout contract with the Flint Generals of the IHL.
Also, Jim Rutherford, general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, tells us why he picked up Sergei Samsonov off waivers yesterday afternoon. Samsonov played on a line with Rod Brind’Amour and Cory Stillman last night as the Hurricanes downed the Bruins 1-0.
Rick Westhead of the Toronto Star is back to talk about what Mats Sundin is worth according to all the top ex-general managers in North America. The answer may shock you.
Speaking of Mats Sundin, many hockey observers think the Maple Leafs should do with Mats what the Flyers did with Peter Forsberg last year: ask him to waive his “no trade” clause to the team could pick up some younger assets. We’ll speak with Don Baisley, agent for Peter Forsberg about how that conversation took place last year between Philly and his client.
All this plus Tariq Al-Bashir of the Washington Post on Ted Leonsis’ comments about the ongoing contract negations with Alex Ovechkin, Chicago analyst Ed Olczyk on the wave of Blackhawks injuries (along with tonight’s game against the Dallas Stars), John Ahlers on the Ducks/Leafs tilt tonight and Lynn Zinser of the New York Times about the Rangers losing streak which last night hit four ... against the Tampa Bay Lightning ... at home! Yikes!!!
Hope you can join us today.
