What does the Ovechkin deal mean for future?
Friday, January 11, 2008 | 02:53 PM ET
On today’s edition of Hockey Night in Canada Radio (Sirius ch 122 at 4 p.m. ET) I’ll talking plenty about Alex Ovechkin’s mega-contract with my co-host Scott Morrison.
Is it too much money? Too much term? What does this mean for the future of hockey agents since the league’s biggest deal was done by the player himself? And what does this mean for other restricted free agents?
What happens when Dion Phaneuf goes to the pay window in Calgary? This topic has so much meat on the bone and can’t wait to hear your feedback on it as well at 1-877-666-HNIC (4642).
Also, we’ll get into the Toronto Maple Leafs situation after they dropped a 5-2 decision to the last place Los Angeles Kings. We’ll revisit another Leaf era eerily reminiscent of the one the team is going through … ahhh yes, the 1980s edition. Former Leaf captain Rick Vaive takes us through what the squad is going through right now.
Big ownership swap in the NHL yesterday as former Nashville Predators owner Craig Leipold purchased the ultra-successful Minnesota Wild for an undisclosed amount. Mike Russo of the Minnesota Star Tribune peels away the layers of the sale and also previews tonight’s Wild/Blackhawks tilt.
We’ll air some of Elliotte Friedman’s piece on Detroit “Hockey Town” which will air on tomorrow night’s “Inside Hockey” on the Scotiabank Hockey Tonight pre-game show and Jim Hughson drops by to talk about tonight’s Phoenix/Vancouver matchup and tomorrow Leafs/Sharks game (part of CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada).
Hope you can join us today!!
