Highlight-reel goals piling up in NHL
Thursday, January 3, 2008 | 11:29 AM ET
Don’t look now but we have another goal of the year candidate.
Last night, Atlanta’s Ilya Kovalchuk danced around the entire Carolina Hurricanes team and put the puck under the bar. Check it out.
Not sure if it’s better than the move Jonathan Toews pulled on the Colorado Avalanche earlier this year. You be the judge.
I still like this 9-year-old pulling off the same move Robbie Schremp tried unsuccessfully during an OHL young stars game.
Speaking of Schremp (who’s not having that bad of a year in Springfield of the AHL with 39 points in 35 games and with the Oilers looking for scoring punch don’t be surprised if he gets another call up), we’ve all seen this little sick sequence from a couple of seasons ago at the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins skills competition.
And just for a little more spice here’s former Barrie Colt Rob Hisey scoring a beauty last year in the Finnish league.
Hockey sure can be fun, eh? If you have any clips you want highlighted email me at jeff_marek@cbc.ca and I’ll get them up here. Goals, fights, hits ... your choice.
Coming up on today’s edition of Hockey Night in Canada Radio (4 p.m. ET Sirius ch 122), Craig Simpson co-hosts for the full two hours. We’ll be joined by Ottawa Senators head coach John Paddock about the controversy in the Sens goal and dropping a pair to the Capitals. Also, Brad McCrimmon, who has been promoted from assistant to associate coach in Atlanta, checks in to talk about his promotion and last night’s 5-4 OT win against the Hurricanes (oh, and that sick dangle by Kovie you saw above).
And we'll also talk to Detroit Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock.
Hope you can join us!
