From the "what were they thinking" files

Just in a goofy kinda mood today after finding this gem on YouTube last night while watching the Leafs-Ducks game (yes that’s how much of a non-life I have).
It’s a Sassoon commercial from 1979 featuring the New York Rangers.
And it is unreal.
Wow, eh? How can you not watch that and howl?
And if that’s not enough I dug up the sequel to that commercial.
I know, what were they thinking?
But the Rangers aren’t the only offenders. Have you seen the Calgary Flames “Red Hot” video?
I know what you’re thinking … man, Mike Vernon sure does look like Mike Reno from Loverboy.
And no, the Toronto Maple Leafs are not exempt from the ridicule either. Remember this video from the 92-92 run?

OK enough of the “ha ha”… you may have seen clips of this brawl between Ak Bars Kazan and Traktor Chelyabinsk from the Russian Super League on the highlights last night. Well, here’s the whole thing for your enjoyment. It’s got some pretty aggressive music underneath it so if you’re in your office you may want to turn the volume down quick.
Do you recognize the goalie for Kazan (white jerseys) with the trickle of blood under his left eye? Hint: He’s a former first rounder for the Buffalo Sabres and the first Finnish goalie to be credited with a goal in the NHL.
Mika Noronen.
Also of note, Chelyabinsk’s head coach is former NHL tough guy Andrei Nazarov. Former NHL’er Jason Doig is on the team.
Craig Simpson joins me on Hockey Night In Canada Radio this afternoon at 4 p.m. ET on Sirius ch 122.
Our guests include Greg Millen discussing the Leafs/Kings game. John Shorthouse, play-by-play voice of the Vancouver Canucks, talks to us about Roberto Luongo skipping the all-star game and tonight's Canucks/Sharks game.

During a recent Ranger telecast they showed the Sassoon commercial to Dave Maloney during his between period game analysis. Of course Al Trautwig, Joe Micheletti, and Sam Rosen asked Dave, "What were you guys thinking?"
They will never let him live it down...........

Wow! omg! did that ever take me back! I was in high school when that aired and I recall my friends and I being the Islander fans we are, got the biggest kick out of it back then, it was sucha goof! Islander fans were relentless to ranger fans about it at games too it made for some good entertainment.
I like how you titled it.."what were they thinking" so true, I forgot all about that. That just made me laugh and of course realize how much time has passed and now I feel old ;)
Thanks for the clips!
