Could Cujo or Esche be headed for Hollywood?

Hope you can catch the Hockey Night in Canada Radio show this afternoon (Sirius channel 122, 4 p.m. ET). We'll be all over the story of the NHL Players Association nominating Paul Kelly to take over the position of executive director.
HNIC analyst Craig Simpson will be my co-host as we run down the four games on the NHL sked and focus in on the Flyers-Thrashers affair, where the Thrashers are in danger of going 0-for-6 to start the season. Stopping the skid won’t be an easy task as the Flyers are playing some inspired hockey these days, although many of their efforts have been overshadowed by the suspensions of Steve Downie and Jesse Boulerice.
Around the league:
- It looks like the Jonathan Bernier experiment in Los Angeles is over as the Kings are sending the young netminder back to Lewistown of the QMJHL. Start the goalie trade talks now. You can be sure Don Meehan will be calling about his client Curtis Joseph, and Robert Esche’s group will be on the phone as well.
- The Anaheim Ducks are shopping for some help up front and dangling packages that include netminders Ilya Bryzgalov (who was just phenomenal against the Red Wings last night) and Jonas Hiller along with defenceman Maxim Kondratiev and maybe even a 2008 first-round pick.
- Speaking of the Ducks, Todd Bertuzzi will be out at least a week after suffering a concussion in Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Wild. The big winger was caught admiring one of his passes when Wild tough guy Derek Boogaard popped him with a big hit.
- Remember what we discussed yesterday about Bryan McCabe? Well, he didn’t do himself any favours last night in Buffalo as he shot the puck into his own net in OT. The Leafs are back at home Thursday against the Florida Panthers and the boo birds should be out in force. McCabe isn’t the only defenceman to be hearing it from the hometown fans - Marek Malik in New York is having as tough a go as McCabe is.

Good for the L.A. Kings to send down the kid. Jonathan Bernier would have to stand on his head every game to just let this team compete for a full 60 minutes - not very fair to ask of a young goaltender so I give a big thumbs-up to that move.
Who would fit in at Los Angeles? Curtis Joseph, or Robert Esche? Well, as a Flyer fan I can say you would get just as many quality games out of Esche as Joseph but for less cash. Esche had good years in Philadelphia and still has some left in him. Joseph is still good but can not regain the old form that would be expected by fans so I think Esche would be a better fit.
Bryan McCabe - leave him alone. I don't like Toronto but, and it;s a big BUT!, every team would want him if it wasn't for the size of his contract. He scored on his own net so make him buy the team dinner or something and move on... we are not in Columbia and it not soccer!
