The New York Islanders announced on Thursday that left wing Matt Moulson agreed to terms on a three-year contract.
Moulson, 27, was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer.
The North York, Ont., native blossomed with the Islanders last season, leading the team with 30 goals while adding 18 assists in 82 games. This season he's notched 17 goals and 12 assists in 49 games.
Moulson has found a place in Long Island after being unable to claim a roster spot with the Pittsburgh Penguins, who drafted him in the ninth round at the 2003 NHL draft, and the Los Angeles Kings.
The Islanders did not release financial terms, but various outlets have reported the deal will be worth $9.4 million US in total. Moulson is earning $2.45 million this season.
