The New York Islanders signed left-winger Jeff Tambellini to a $1.175-million US, two-year contract on Wednesday.

"We're extremely happy that we have Jeff as a member of the Islanders organization for the next two years," general manager Garth Snow said in a statement.

"We know that Jeff will come to training camp in shape and ready to compete in September and we look forward to it."

Tambellini, 24, split last season between the NHL and the Islanders' American Hockey League affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers

The native of Port Moody, B.C., led Bridgeport with 38 goals and tallied a franchise-record 76 points in 57 games.

He also had a goal and three assists in 31 games with the Islanders.

Tambellini, the Los Angeles Kings' first-round pick (27th overall) in 2003, has four goals and 13 assists in 79 career games with New York and L.A.
