The Carolina Hurricanes will be without forward Erik Cole from four to six weeks due to a fracture in his lower left leg.
Cole, 30, collided with Boston defenceman Dennis Wideman in Carolina's loss to the Bruins on Saturday.
Cole re-signed with Carolina in the offseason. The Oswego, N.Y., native was reacquired by the Hurricanes late last NHL season after a disappointing turn in Edmonton. He had 18 goals and 24 assists in 80 games split between the clubs.
Cole has scored 147 goals and added 175 assists in 500 NHL games, with 479 penalty minutes. He was selected in the third round of the 1998 NHL entry draft by the Hurricanes.
Carolina has been outscored 9-2 in dropping its first two games of the season. The Hurricanes return to action on Tuesday with a home game against Tampa Bay.
