Confessions of a Hockey Mom

Soumettre par : Veronica Tweedle, Lincoln Centennial Arena, Beamsville, ON

Yes, I admit it, I am a hockey mom. Not quite the pitbull wearing lipstick that Sarah Palin describes. I just love watching my son play hockey. I am proud of the fact that at tournaments the parents of our team are by far the loudest cheering section of the arena...WE don't need a cowbell! Yes, weekends away at tournaments have become the highlight of my winter. Yes, the fact that his team is winning many games this year including an entire tournament undefeated gives me undescribable joy! Yes, I am proud to call myself a hockey mom. GO BLADES! LINCOLN IS HOCKEYVILLE!

My Neighbor

Soumettre par : Marco Chiappetta, Fort William Gardens, Thunder Bay, ON

He was my neighbor for nearly 12 years. As I was growing, I didn't like hockey, but as I got older I started to like it. I started to like it when my parents told me a certain Peter Cava was our neighbor. I had always known Peter Cava for being my neighbor and a hockey player on the Lakehead University Thunderwolves, but what I didn't know was that he was almost like a pro hockey player like Eric Staal. I didn't find this out until he was no longer my neighbor. I found out he was not just any neighbor, but he was a neighbor that played hockey in the AHL, OHL, ECHL, CHL, CIS, WPHL, and UHL. I was also informed not to long ago that he was drafted 110th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1996 NHL entery draft but never played with Leafs, but he did play with their AHL team, the S.T. John's Maple Leafs. When he returned to play hockey in Thunder Bay with the Thunderwolves in 2004-2005, it seemed to be Peter last year of hockey. It was because he chose to become a teacher in Thunder Bay after a wild career of hockey. To me Peter Cava was an inspiration to hockey. I don't see him much, but when I do he is in casual clothing teaching kids. This is why I think THUNDER BAY IS KARFT HOCKEYVILLE 2010!!!

Cranbrookville

Soumettre par : derren perpelitz, Cranbrook RecPlex, Cranbrook, BC

We moved to Cranbrook when our oldest was 5. The community is very pro hockey but how can it not be with NHL stars such as the Neidermeyer's being born and raised there. Cranbrook is in the South East corner of British Columbia and the only large center for hundreds of miles away. It is for that reason we travel and participate in leagues and tournaments often very far away from Cranbrook. This is a big commitment and financial burden for many parents. Our son will soon be 16 and through Cranbrook hockey he has had the oppportunity to participate in such events as Youth 16 and attend WHL camps. By publishing my story, it would give Cranbrook hockey and those involved all these years, some acknowledgment that their hard work is appreciated. Winning Hockeyville would go far towards recognizing our community, volunteers and parents commitments and help towards upgrading some of our aging venues.
