PEI hockey players are proud and inspire each other
Gerard Gallant had Errol Thompson. Brad Richards had Gallant. Mark Flood and Adam McQuaid had Richards. Somewhere down the line there will be other hockey players from Prince Edward Island who will be inspired by McQuaid or Flood.

Memorial Cup-champion Sea Dogs have plenty of PEI flavour
When the Saint John Sea Dogs line up against the Prince Edward Island Rocket at the Charlottetown Civic Centre as part of Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada on Saturday afternoon, they will take the visitors' bench. But in many respects, the defending Memorial Cup-champion Sea Dogs will be the home team.

P.E.I.'s Billy McMillan has a unique story
From Charlottetown to St. Mike's to St. Dunstan's to the national team to the NHL and back to the Island, Billy MacMillan's story is truly unique.

PEI hockey was all the rage in 1965 with St. Dunstan's
The St. Dunstan's Saints warmed hearts in P.E.I. in a cold rink in 1965, coached by Jack Kane Jr., father of Canada's best ever female golfer.

PEI remains a big part of Joel Ward today
Washington Capitals forward Joel Ward wasn't sure what to expect when he first attended the University of Prince Edward Island over 10 years ago, but he came to love the place, and visits whenever he can.

Kristen Cameron: Fighting back
Kristen Cameron comes from a family with deep roots in P.E.I. hockey. So when the 26-year-old was struck by an impaired driver in a hit-and-run accident, the Island's hockey community rallied to help. And Kristen turned to what she has learned from hockey to motivate her recovery.

Moms on ice
Every Wednesday morning between October and March, Tanya Sheridan wakes up early and heads to Cody Banks Arena in Sherwood with a bag of hockey gear. For decades it would be her kids she would be driving to early morning practice, but for the last seven years it has been Sheridan who is hitting the ice.

Forbes Kennedy still has plenty of fight
The annual Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada will celebrate Prince Edward Island on Saturday. The land of Anne of Green Gables, potatoes and Stompin' Tom Connors may be the smallest province in Canada, but its hockey tradition is rich and full of characters.

Dick Irvin selects his hockey heroes
Sports: After watching the NHL through 8 decades, you have seen as much if not more than anyone else. With the Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada program themed on heroes this year, who do you think of when it comes to NHL heroes?

Bruce Rainnie: My first time on Hockey Night in Canada
If you're a broadcaster in Canada, and you have even the faintest interest in sports, then there is one program, and really ONLY one, that you truly yearn to work for. And when that day finally comes, after you've wondered for years if it ever will - well, you're not likely to forget a single detail. For me, the date was February 9, 2002, the place was Air Canada Centre in Toronto, the teams were the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs, and the stage was, of course, Hockey Night in Canada. But before I share with you the particulars of that day, a bit of back-story...

Abegweit Ice: Reflecting on Hockey in Charlottetown
I was just a "kid from away" who had been weaned on the rivalry between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens. Therefore, my first CBC assignment covering hockey for the supper hour news program "Compass," in Prince Edward Island, specifically Charlottetown, amounted to navigating uncharted waters.

My favourite place on earth!
Here's a day to mark on your calendar. February 11, 2012. That's when
Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada takes place on Prince Edward Island.
This wonderful island happens to be my favourite place on earth, so
getting a chance to spend a few days there while participating in a
remarkable event will surely be remarkable.
