CBCSports.ca senior reporter Tim Wharnsby names the top performers in the NHL from Monday night.

FIRST STAR: Vincent Lecavalier, F, Tampa Bay Lightning

Lecavalier scored only twice in his first 17 games this season, and he doubled that output with a two-goal game in the Lightning's 4-1 win in Phoenix. The big centre also chipped in an assist as Tampa improved to 4-0-2 in its past six outings.

SECOND STAR: Matt Moulson, F, N.Y. Islanders

The unheralded Moulson became the 16th player in the NHL this season to hit the 10-goal mark. He scored twice in the Islanders' 4-1 victory against Boston. It's early, but surprisingly the Islanders are among the top eight in the Eastern Conference.

THIRD STAR: Jack Johnson, D, Los Angeles Kings

Down 2-0 in the second period, Johnson started the Kings' comeback with a slapshot goal from the point and then fired the only goal in the shootout for a 4-3 Los Angeles win in Florida. He also had an end-to-end rush that almost resulted in the game-winner in overtime.
