Brodeur puts crushing goal behind him

The day after shattering his stick against the boards at the end of Game 4, Devils goalie Martin Brodeur was his usual calm self.

“It’s in the past," Brodeur told reporters Wednesday at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., where Game 5 will be played Thursday night. “I think emotions are always part of the game and last night was last night."

It was not just the fact that the Hurricanes won the game with .02 seconds remaining on the clock that angered Brodeur, he thought Jussi Jokinen should have been called for goalie interference before the shot was taken.

And the explanation Brodeur received as to why there was no penalty called?

"They said I had time to reset myself," the goalie said.

Not surprisingly, the Hurricanes made players available in New Jersey and all believed the referees made the right call by not penalizing Jokinen.

The Devils did not skate Wednesday.

Greene ready to step in for Devils

Devils coach Brent Sutter isn't ready to confirm that defenceman Bryce Salvador will miss Game 5 against the Hurricanes with a left knee injury, but everyone was talking as if Andy Greene would make his 2009 playoff debut in his place. Even Greene.

Asked if he's playing, Greene said: "I think so." Greene said he’d be ready if called upon.

"You prepare like you’re playing every game. You can’t be caught by surprise," Greene said.

"You’ve just got to be ready. You prepare like you’re playing every game so if something does happen, you’re ready to go, and ready to step up.

Green also offered his view on the series, tied at two games apiece.

"It’s kind of like how it’s been all year," he said. "When we play our game - aggressive, smart, aggressive in all three zones, finishing hits - you could see the success we were having. When we weren’t doing it, you could see how they were taking it to us and how they were playing well.

“It showed [Tuesday night]. In the first period-and-a-half or so, we were kind of on our heels a little bit, and you saw the results. And in the third we started to play pretty well and you saw the results that we had when we started to play well. You’ve just got to still play your game in the system and be ready for all situations."
