PIT vs NYR

Fleury's crease unfamiliar territory for Rangers

Tom Renney has spent the two days since his team skated off the Mellon Arena ice Sunday afternoon imploring them to get up close and personal with Pittsburgh goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.

After a series in which the Rangers spent nearly as much time in the opposing crease as Martin Brodeur, few Broadway Blueshirts have been spotted anywhere near the young Pittsburgh goalie - Sean Avery's final 17 seconds spent on the lip of the blue paint and his post-buzzer slash exchange with Fleury hardly counts.

So imagine Renney's surprise when he was told after today's morning skate that Penguins coach Michel Therrien complained to referees between periods of Sunday's game about the Rangers' interfering with Fleury.

"Really? I didn't know you could do that," Renney sarcastically replied.

'It's playoff hockey'

"You know what? Whatever, it's playoff hockey. This is where it gets fun. Coaches are doing anything they can to win. Whatever he wants to try is his prerogative."

Renney either tried some gamesmanship of his own or was simply thinking out loud when he juggled a couple of his line combinations and one of his defensive pairings at practice Monday. Judging by which players remained on the ice long after the optional morning skate had concluded for some hard skating under assistant coach Perry Pearn, those changes won't be part of tonight's lineup.

Hollweg returns for Rangers

Instead, Renney will make one shift, replacing speedy sniper Petr Prucha with banger Ryan Hollweg on the fourth line.

"I think there's a style of play that we kind of need to embrace to get ourselves a couple of wins here," Renney said.
