Hey Don,
While listening to the US anthem on CBC I checked NBC just to see. They run commercials during the anthem.
Hey, I felt guilty for switching while their anthem was on. Give the CBC and all Canadians the thumbs up for respecting the importance of the anthems.

Hi Don,
This is regarding the sleeping Penns fan at the end of game 2 in Detroit. The boy in the Crosby jersey is my son Austin Hill. He happens to be a huge Penns fan. He actually was not sleep...but did have his eyes closed at the time...he was suffering from an ear infection and was feeling quite ill at that moment. You have actually met Austin's dad Scott. He was good friends with Stan Jonathan's son and was probably Austin's age when you met him. Anyway give the kid a break..hes taking alot of flack at school...lol

C'mon, Grapes - I've been a big fan of yours for a long time, but you are making yourself look foolish and hypocrytical with this constant Euro/Russian bashing. I know Gary Roberts is one of "your guys", but giving a sucker punch to the head of a guy (from behind, no less) that is coming back from concussion problems is just gutless - and though I'm sure you won't admit it on your broadcast, you know it. I hope these aren't the examples you are giving to the kids out there of how to "play the game the right way".

What is worse though, is that if that Robers situation was reversed and a European/Russian Wings player took a Roberts-like cheap shot at a top Canadian Pens player that had similar problems - you'd be screaming bloody murder on your broadcast about it.

If guys like Holmstrom or Datsyuk were Canadian, you would love them to death. I'm not a huge fan of some of the changes Betteman has made, but you have to accept that these guys you are always mocking (in this case, the Euro/Russian Wings) are throwing big checks, taking punishment in front of the net, grinding it out on the boards -heck, even Dats stood up to "your boy" Roberts and threw down with him (and Gary ended up on the ground in that one).

I'll always be a fan, Don, but you have to start giving credit where it's due.

Hey Don,

How dare you bad mouth a group of guys who work together so well! Thomas Holmstrom is the Dino of the new era wings. Yes i was sad to see Dino retire but lets face it, you are out of touch or to damn stubborn to see that he is a talented player. Futhermore, he plays a role, you have heard of role players haven't you? I have been a longtime fan of you and hockey night in Canada but you are wrong! Maybe i am mistaken, but i have never seen you bad mouth the talent that Dino dipslayed. Lets face it, the Pens have a talented, young, inexperienced captain who, combined with the coach, have not displayed a level of discipline amoungst the troops to recover from the hole they have dug for themselves. Tonights game was not playoof hockey, it was a bunch of out of control players taking stupid penalties. Cheap shots and dumb penalties don't add up to a champion. Still a fan but you are wrong!

Hey, Grapes, you tell it like it is, so when do you advise Bettman and his zebras to forget about Holmstrom's reputation and give him equal protection.

Homer's not a complainer, but the Wings, Bettman -- hell, the NHL -- are lucky he wasn't decapitated on that Orpik hit in the second period.

Never seen such a gutless cheapshot, when Holmstrom was already pinned against the boards by Fleury, who'd already butt-ended Holmstrom on the same play.

So Holmstrom jaws with Orpik as they rejoin the play and what happens -- the gutless zebras puts them both in the box.

No wonder Drake tried to run Orpik next time he was on the ice.

I'm a big fan of old-time, rock-em-sockem hockey and Homer can play it as well as anyone, but cleanly. But the anti-Holmstrom calls in this year's playoffs have grown ridiculous.

The disallowed goal against Dallas because his a$$ -- not his skates, but his freakin' butt -- were "in the crease."

Then the disallowed goal Saturday night when his stick was merely touching Fleury's pads. Then Pittsburg on the very next possession can mug Osgood with immunity.

No one -- Babcock or anyone else -- connected with the Wings can complain about this grossly lop-sided blind-man's bluff the refs are playing whenever Holmstrom's involved.

So it's time for someone with your voice, authority and independence to tell Bettman and his boys that it's plain ridiculous how they're fly-specking every little thing Holmstrom does while giving Fleury, Orpik and anyone else in black and white free reign to do whatever they want against Homer and get away with it.

There's also a certain irony on Holmstrom's goal. Pittsburg's so concerned about Homer getting in front of Fleury, but the goal came cuz he was behind the goalie.

Love your work, Grapes, esp your tell-it-like-it-really-is. And now it's time for the old Coach to bring some honesty back to these playoffs -- when nobody else will.

Thank you Don for your coverage of the 2008 Memorial Cup final, but there were 2 teams in the game. You could have showed the Rangers' goal and how heart broken the guys were at the end of the game; the trophy wasn't the only thing that was broken. The Rangers fired over 50 shots at Spokane and gave it their all the entire season; being ranked the best team in the country for most of the season. The better team just happened to win that day. Your report made the final look pretty one sided. Kitchener-Waterloo is proud to be home to the 2008 Ontario Hockey League Champion Kitchener Rangers. We love you guys and good luck in the future.

I would like to know why they do not play the Canadian National antemn anymore in the playoff if a Canadian team is not playing. Most of the players are Canadian, and I would add that most of the fans are Canadian. When did they change this and why?

Grapes....can't believe that you would say that you are going to talk to Peter DeBoer regarding the 9-0 win over the Bulls....are you then going to say something to George Burnett for the 11-0 win over the Generals. You know what they say about payback....wonder if the Bulls feel as bad as the Gens did when they were blown out of the water.....

once again we end another entertaining year in the nhl as i recall sitting with my buds in the air canada center and enjoying toronto's 4-2 wooping of ottawa.you can say it all in the goal tending or its all one line doing all the work. i myself beleive hockey is definetly a team effort and when its all said and done its who has the most drive, determination and heart.... heart being the operative word. let the detroit red wings think about that when they lose game 7 and are discussing what went wrong when their golfing in the keys....ty ..rc lundquist

This edition of Coach's Corner really shows Cherry's bias. He is obviously way in favor of the Pens. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to tell. Every analyst is biased to some degree because everybody's human, but please try to be a little more fair!

Yeah, the Penguins power play was pretty potent tonight....Fleury held the Wings off for as long as he could.....the refs tried their best too, bless their hearts; and although CBC and Ron Mclean are cheering for the kid and his crew as best they can....well, you know........Wings in 5.

Coach Cherry observed that when Dan Cleary scored short-handed to put the Red Wings up 3-0, that the Joe Louis Arean public address booth played "I Can See Clearly Now" by Johnny Nash", supposedly in reference to this being the first game that Cleary is playing without a face shield to protect a broken jaw. In fact, they play this at JLA each and every time Cleary scores (bad wordplay from the folks in the PA booth). Coach Cherry will want to mention in his next broadcast that no player from Newfoundland has ever won
a Stanley Cup, and that Dan Cleary could be the very first.
