Why give Holmqvist a home start?

Play Video: Why give Holmqvist a home start?

The coach is surprised that Dallas Stars head coach Dave Tippett gave Johan Holmqvist his first start with the team in such a big home game against the Vancouver Canucks. Don also sees some differences between the Chris Pronger and Chris Simon stomping incidents and loves the way Andrew Cogliano of the Edmonton Oilers is developing.

You know, I feel the same way about New York as I do about Toronto. I'm a Twins, Wild and Vikings fan from MN. I'm sickened by the east coast bias. I don't feel the need to explain, other than saying "Boston and New York are the only teams that seem to matter to the national U.S. Media PUKE! On the same token I find myself rooting for Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver (and awhile ago Winnepeg),whenever they play Toronto for the same reason. (truth be told I'd root for any Canadien team facing Boston or New York..... Actually let me add Carolina, all Florida teams, Atlanta, The Dallas North Stars, Phoenix, Anaheim, L.A., San Jose and Frickin Nashville. My home and native land is up north.

Don, i love ya, and i look forward to Saturday for HNIC on CKWS in part because of you....but C"MON!!! If Kaleta played for the Leafs, Habs or Sens you'de be singing his praises, not slamming him. Kaleta is a pot-stirrer, fighting for a place in Buffalo, and is doing his job....irritating other teams, finishing his checks, and drawing penalties. Don, I love ya, and I love that you are a Canadian above all else (and I dont blame you, I'de be very proud to be a Canadian), but the bias is coloring your vision (or was it that jacket?)

Everything is about Toronto because approximately 25% of Canada's population are fans of the Leafs.

so don, your're a kerryman?? going by the green and gold colours. I could not agree more concerning your comment of when the ice was sprayed onto the goal tender. In my book he deserved five minutes for misconduct at least. Able to see the show in Ireland and enjoy your acerbic comments, which are on the money the vast majority of times. my tip for the stanley cup would have to be red wings. hard to see them beaten on the hard road ahead.

Don - I love you but if Patty Kaleta was on the Leafs you wouldn't be complaining.

Hey, guys,
Big fan of HNIC and Coaches Corner - you may not always like what Don has to say, but you'd better listen, because he is right much more often than not. And regular exposure of a couple of good, stand-up Canadian guys doesn't hurt either.
I have a thought about the officiating in the NHL - I won't knock it at this time- it is being done enough - but why not put an off-ice official up in the booth - an official that can see the entire ice surface and could catch so many plays like those away from the puck, or immediate camera angles. He could whistle plays down ( maybe by siren or via PA ) and be in contact with the on-ice referee, - all officiating rules could apply and he could conference with the on-ice officials, maybe give them a heads up about something they see brewing between a couple of guys, etc ...

Go Sens Go ! ( had to throw that in there )

Chuck

I think you missed the point, Carol. He's making a fuss because Toronto could've had him and be in a much better position than they are. Instead they drafted a goalie which they ended up trading away anyway. It's more disbelief that they let a player like Cogliano slip away.

And if you haven't noticed, it's blatantly obvious Cherry likes the Leafs.

Living in Bratislava, Slovakia, is not the same as living in Fredericton, New Brunswick, that's for sure; especially on a Saturday night. With all due respect, they enjoy hockey here (mostly just around World Championship time) but they certainly don't live hockey like we do in Canada. I finally got a channel that shows me Hockey Night in Canada and I watch it religiously every weekend and I never miss Don and Ron. Watching HNIC and the coverage and features really shows why Canada has won more World Championships, World Junior Championships and more Olympic Gold than any other country! That's not a slight against other hockey nations; that's a testament to Canadian hockey culture. The only thing (because everybody's a critic) is that we always have to watch Toronto on Saturday in the first game. What about Ottawa? I'm a Bruins fan of 30 years (so it's fine that I don't have to watch Montreal) and my grandmother was a huge Toronto fan (and probably still watches them in her corner of Heaven) but I think it's only fair to show Ottawa more. Other than that, great job! Thank you for all the effort and hard work that CBC puts into bringing the game. It's the greatest hockey show on Earth!

Hi Don and Ron,
I'm, (we're), big Habs fans here in sunny southern California. We got to watch the Habs play the lowly Kings last week and I sat a couple of seat from Canadiens' President Pierre Boisvet. A class act on the part of the Pres. We spoke for a while and met my 3 boys as they were dressed in their red/white/blue. He handed me 2 team pins. He realized I had 3 boys in attendance and pulled the 3rd and only one he had left off his lapel and handed it to me. Class Act. That's why the Habs are going to the cup. Gentlemen, wish I could see more of you. Love the suits especially the green St. Patty's you wore tonight, Don. I figured a way by tuning in on CBC.CA and watching you over my hi-speed internet. Feels like Hockey Night in Canada all over again for me. Love it. I wish I could me in TO or Mtl or Van or anywhere in Canada on a cold night eating real pizza, smoked meat and subs and drinking down a cold one while the Canadian teams do their thing. Their is nothing like Hockey Night in Canada on a cold Saturday night anywhere in Canada. Miss it.

Fellow Canadian.

Mike

Why not be happy that a great Canadian team - Edmonton- has Cogliano? Why is everything always about Toronto?
