Don likes the Calgary Flames' acquisition of Jim Vandermeer and highlights the underrated play of Ryan Malone of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Steve Ott of the Dallas Stars. The Coach also takes a moment to discuss the tragic loss of Windsor Spitfires captain Mickey Renaud.

About Don
A mainstay of CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA, Don Cherry first appeared on the program in 1980 in a segment called Coach’s Corner. In what has become an important tradition for Canadian hockey fans, Cherry has been appearing on Coach’s Corner alongside host Ron MacLean since 1987, staying true to form with his candid and often controversial - but always entertaining - comments.
About Ron
Ron MacLean, host of CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA for more than 18 years, began his broadcasting career in 1978. After joining CBC in 1986, MacLean hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs' telecasts on CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA, before becoming the full-time national host in 1987. MacLean has been recognized with eight Gemini Awards for his work with CBC, including Best Host in a Sports Program for CBC’S HOCKEY DAY IN CANADA in 2004 and 2006.

As a fan of Hockey Night in Canada / The Hot Stove and Coaches Corner, I think Don with a classless comment belittled us all tonight. “Matt Sundin arrives two day before training camp and leaves as soon as the season is over,” says Don. What would Don expect if a good old Canadian boy was playing in Sweden . . . disown his homeland just because he earns a living elsewhere?! Is Don against returning to country, family and loved ones? Does this also mean that Sundin can’t love Toronto his adopted city? Speaking of character as Don so often rants . . . He should try to show some, Sundin has always stood tall to this Canadian.

You know, people talk, say things, have opinions, thats fine, but to the people who do not like Don Cherry if you watched coaches corner tonight how could you not. I am from Windsor, a town in mourning , and the tribute to Mickey Reneaud from Grapes was small and to the point but i truly believe that Don was sincere it seemed like he was lost for words (i,m sire that doesnt happen often) i thought he was going to cry again Ron and Don showed how much class they and the entire CBC network has. thank you, for having class and showing remorse for a super kid who will be missed. from, just another spitfire fan...
