Congratulations to Canada's juniors

Play Video: Congratulations to Canada's juniors

Grapes doesn't like the way the Maple Leafs' Kyle Wellwood was benched this week but is enjoying the toughness displayed by a couple of young Edmonton Oilers. The coach also takes a moment to salute Team Canada after it clinched its fourth straight world junior hockey championship in the Czech Republic.

Erik, seriously. The numbers speak for themselves. That was Sweden's first medal of any color in 12 years in the world juniors! The last time Canada was shut out of the medals was back in 1998 and that was after a five year run of golds. Canada and Russia are the only countries that consistently field strong teams year in and year out. BTW, in regulation time Canada had control of the first two periods so the final score was just.

I would like to know why Dominik Hasek didn't remove his helmet for the anthem. DOes he have no respect or does he think he is special. He has lost my respect as a person.

I watch HNC every Saturday night and have since I was a kid. CBC has the best coverage of the NHL bar none. This Erik guy from Sweden doesn't get the fact that Canada IS the #1 hockey nation in the world. Just because Sweden won the gold at the last olympics doesn't make them the best hockey nation. They had a great team. Canada has the best/most players. (As much as it hurts me to say that as a true, blue American. Ha.)
Get a clue Erik....

Hey "Erik in Sweden",
sorry you can't accept that hockey IS CANADA'S game, but it wasn't luck that won us the Gold. Get your facts straight.
Four times in a row isn't because of luck..
GO CANADA!!!

Erik; That's the problem with the European's, especially the Swedes, you always think your the best, even when you don't win. When was the last time the Swede's won this championship 4 times in a row ? You can only claim to be the best when you win, you can get an "E" for effort, but only the gold for winning.

Sorry Eric, but you're wrong. Canada produces the best hockey players. It's a pretty high percentage of Canadians in the NHL. I belive it's in the 80's. Not just because there are tons of Canadians but because they specialize at the sport.

I'm Canadian, but I always root for Finland, so I'm not a bias Canada fan, but facts are facts.

Canada is the #1 nation in hockey. Though Finland and Sweeden are definately improved and have a lot of potential and talent, they still don't compare.
When Sweeden has 80 some odd per cent of players in the NHL then I'll reconsider calling them a number #1 nation in hockey.

A few weeks ago Grapes called out Jarko Ruutu as a "punk who doesn't fight" in his defense of Simon's stomp. Last week Ruutu engaged in the 24th fight of his NHL career and destroyed Darcy Tucker (engaging in his 77th career fight) in the process. Yet Cherry did not comment on this on Saturday's Coach's Corner. Why not?

Be man enough to admit when you are wrong.

PLEASE CONSIDER FOR COACHS CORNER!!!

Why wasn't there a call on the Kubina hit from behind on Coburn? All everybody wants to talk about is the cheap shot that Blake took from Downie. Yes the Downie hit was a sucker punch, but wasn't the hit from behind just as cheap and dangerous. Isn't there supposed to be a league wide crackdown on hits from behind? C'mon Don and Ron, can you guys bring this up on the corner next week. Was there a blind eye turned because it is the Flyers? A hit from behind is a hit from behind, penalize all of them not just suspend the ones who cause injury. There should be a lot more consistency across the boards. ( that was for you Ron )

Great to see Grapes say something about the west
and Oiler younguns . Aren't most viewers getting
a little sick of seeing the cameo shots of
coach Maurice and his expressions to every
goal and penalty call as well as the special
shots of JFjr from his solitary box . Unnecessary drama for a broadcast. Bring back
satellite hotstove so viewers can hear about
some other parts of the country.

Sweden should have won based on scoring chances.

Sweden could have won if they could find the net more often.

Sweden would have won if Canada's goalie wasn't so good.

Sweden did not win. End of story.

Canadas fourth straight win of course we are the best nation in hockey. You dont get lucky four times in a row.

Canada isn't the best at hockey. canada got lucky
and sweden should've won. sweden is a way better hockey nation than Canada

Just wanted to let you guys know that we always tune in for Coach's Corner because of Don Cherry. He has done more to promote patriotism for our wonderful country than any other public figure in recent years. He loves Canada as I do. Wasn't it great to hear our young boys sing O Canada with so much enthusiasm, and to see 150 of our troops at the World Juniors, both of which are fully supported by Cherry.
