The New York Rangers need to start blocking shots if they hope to win the Stanley Cup and Detroit Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock has done a great job keeping his team on an even keel in their series with the San Jose Sharks. Don also takes a moment to revisit the tribute to Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan from last week's edition of Coach's Corner.

About Don
A mainstay of CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA, Don Cherry first appeared on the program in 1980 in a segment called Coach’s Corner. In what has become an important tradition for Canadian hockey fans, Cherry has been appearing on Coach’s Corner alongside host Ron MacLean since 1987, staying true to form with his candid and often controversial - but always entertaining - comments.
About Ron
Ron MacLean, host of CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA for more than 18 years, began his broadcasting career in 1978. After joining CBC in 1986, MacLean hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs' telecasts on CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA, before becoming the full-time national host in 1987. MacLean has been recognized with eight Gemini Awards for his work with CBC, including Best Host in a Sports Program for CBC’S HOCKEY DAY IN CANADA in 2004 and 2006.

Hey Don, why all the talk about the size of the nets still? Can't someone (like yourself) tell these guys to just leave the game alone and let the fans enjoy what's left of the game we Canadians love so much, before they take away what's fun and left to watch!!! These guys are so skilled they can pick a coner in their sleep, no offense tough guys i love watching you guys do your thing.
Thanks Jamie! GO HABS GO

I started following Mr. Cherry as he coached the Bruins. He was totally, "Right-On" then! (still is!). Keep up the good work Don. Don't be to upset when the Sens fall a little short of this years goal. The Cup

So what to say about the Detroit "Sweeties" now??? Big bad Calgoons and now Sharks have no fins and their big men could not figure Detroit's clutch performers Chelios and Lidstrom, plus the depth of the Wings, have surprised the bigger, "tougher" teams.
But do appreciate his support of Canada's efforts in Afhgahnistan. Western nations have to stick together on this and throughout the world.
But Don, at least show some appreciation for other players in the world, they are highly skilled. Canada doesn't have a monopoly on talent!!

6 Canadian NHL teams contribute 30% to all NHL revenue. 600M Dollars is the amount NHL will receive from CBC, a.k.a. me and you over six years. The big Zero at the end represents amount of respect all Canadian public, hockey fans and hockey tradition in this country will get from the office on 1251 Avenue Of The Americas in New York City.
Why?
Stanley Cup semifinal will start this Saturday on you public TV at your convenience at 11:00 in the morning.
Enjoy it everybody and don't forget that Maple Syrup for your pancake breakfast. It'll most likely be the only Canadian tradition you'll be left with.

We don't get to see that much hockey down here in the Cayman Islands, but we do get the Hockey Night In Canada feed and for the 3000 or so Canadians down here, it's been a welcome taste for starving fans. Calgary was disappointing at best, and our beloved Canucks couldn't gain the confidence needed to act rather than constantly react, and we go out in 5 because of it. We still love ya boys, and know you'll be better next year. Ron and Grapes, keep up the great work it's always a pleasure to watch you guys in acton!

I don't know who is going to win the Stanley Cup, but Toronto is getting it's butt-kicked by everyone who comes to town.
Remember the good old days at Carlton and Wood, when you could out skate the American teams, just by having them show up to the game at the, ahem, Gardens.
How easy it is for them, now.
To count on the Senators for the Big Win against the RedWings or the Sabres is quite fateful!
Moral of the Story.
"Who will help me eat the pie!"
"But you did not help me - pick the berries."
"Concentrate on the Goal"

Don,
I'm not sure where I should send this but I hope you get a chance to read it......I'm a huge Hockey/sports fan and played hockey myself up to Jr. B and I'm the same age to the day as Mark Messier (bald too!). I hope you have a look or get a chance to show Steve Nash and the cut that he received after butting heads with Anthony Parker in the Suns playoff game. I'm not a big Basketball fan but it's nice to see someone stand up and check on the other guy while he was injured himself. In a league that features players like Vince Carter, that goes down with a hang nail, it's nice to see a Canadian show them how to play TOUGH!! Now I'm not picking on Vince but come on, he would have been out for next year if that happened to him!!
Keep up the great work and please give my best and support to the REAL TOUGH GUYS.....OUR TROOPS!!!! (I love those segments) Tell them that we will have replacements coming over soon, as we send our Government that is so concerned with Shane Doan in as they obviously have nothing better to do!
Ron, great job on the show and I look to all of your broadcasts. When are you coming back to Thorold to referee again?? (I need someone to boo :-)
Thanks,
Wayne

Don Cherry was right concerning Roberto Luongo. He was left alone by his teammates and he accomplished miracles. Too bad the Canucks did not make it to the semi-finals. All our hopes rely on Ottawa to bring the Cup where it belongs : Canada! And my salutations to all the soldiers in Kandahar participating at this forum.

1. Why was there only one video view from MSG of Briere's 'no goal' in game 4? You always see a number of different angles, especially when it would be easy to see if the puck was over the line from in front of the goal, but not from MSG.
2. Last time Ottawa played Buffalo in the play offs, before each period, Drury would scuff up the ice inside the Buffalo blue line to make it difficult for someone to carry the puck into their zone. So much for new ice.

Dear Mr. Cherry I went to your restaurant last night and I was exited to see that there was a tv to watch and a ps2 to play. But it didn't work and I was very sad. Then I saw the person in front of me and the person behind me playing THEIR ps2. I really like the jackets you wear and since that you have alot of money can you maybe buy new ps2s for the ones that aren't working. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE!!!! I am 9 years old and i just moved here from BC. i am a CANUCKS fan and so are all my family.

I don't quite agree with the poster that said that Luongo had no support. On offense, I agree, but I think the Canucks defense was very good and other that maybe trying to sign Koltsov, not a whole lot needs to be done on defense.

I was very disappointed in Don's comments about the fan voting of the three stars after the Ottawa/New Jersey game tonight.
While I agree that Emery should have been the first star Don has no right to say the fans are "dumb, dumb".
Maybe he should be reminded who pays his salary.

grapes is right on the money with almost everything. i just don't understand why there is so little commentary on the buff/rangers. or buff in general. that game 5 was one of the best performances i've seen all playoffs and not a word. grapes... i know you live within a toll booth of buff, i don't get it buddy.

thanks for supporting what is right.

post game...Ottawa has just won 3-2
Why?Why?Why? when you are down 3-1 and fighting for survival would New Jersey not pull their goalie with 2:32 seconds when they had it in the Ottawa end...or even at the 3:15 mark when it was in the Ottawa end. You need two goals...you have nothing to loose but everything to gain.... you are not going to beat the defensive moves so ...whats the worst thing...you loose by 4-1
PS I am pilling for Ottawa but look at this as a caoching screw-up.
Go! Don Go! You are #1

Don is absolutely right about Luongo because the Canucks wouldn't have made the playoffs without him. Luongo played very well in his first playoff and received no support from his teammates.
The Canucks will be back but they definitely need to add some forwards who can score.

Sad to see that Cherry hasn't figured out the new Senators. This new team comes back from a bad period of play. It's true that Ottawa had a weak first period but we have the ability to come back now. To call a game after one goal is a little premature.
