The Vancouver Canucks played the first period of game seven like they were afraid to lose and Don doesn't need a research study to prove that the majority of goals are scored on low shots. Grapes also can relate to outbursts from head coaches like John Tortorella because of the pressure they face from the media.

About Don
A mainstay of CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA, Don Cherry first appeared on the program in 1980 in a segment called Coach’s Corner. In what has become an important tradition for Canadian hockey fans, Cherry has been appearing on Coach’s Corner alongside host Ron MacLean since 1987, staying true to form with his candid and often controversial - but always entertaining - comments.
About Ron
Ron MacLean, host of CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA for more than 18 years, began his broadcasting career in 1978. After joining CBC in 1986, MacLean hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs' telecasts on CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA, before becoming the full-time national host in 1987. MacLean has been recognized with eight Gemini Awards for his work with CBC, including Best Host in a Sports Program for CBC’S HOCKEY DAY IN CANADA in 2004 and 2006.

I'm watching the game between the Ducks and the Canucks (game 5) I'm so disapointed with how the Canucks offence is playing in this game. Although the defense is playing decent the only thing keeping them in so far is luongo. For a supposed team of Nhl calibur hockey players they are playing like they belong in pee-wee hockey. If they don't want to be eliminated tonight they had better pull there heads out of each others asses!!!

Don Cherry, I have a picture that was taken 23 years ago with my husband and son, my son was only a year old at the time, and yourself. This was in London at a Bridgestone tire dealership. A friend of the faimly owned the store. You were there to promote bridgestone. My son is getting married this year and I was hoping to be able to send this picture to you and have you autograph it for him. My son played hockey for many years and still plays hockey with his friends when ever he can.We now live in Collingwood, my son is living in Guelph. We lived in Kenora for 12 years and my son, his name is Michael, was the captain of one of the teams that Mike Richards played on. Would it be possible to let us know where I can mail this picture to have you sign it and mail it back to us. I would appreciate it if this is possible. My son does not remember this picture and we want to give it to him as a surprise. He is getting married in August. Thank you, Sincerely Theresa Pinder

Hey Don,
My Grandfather, was with the The 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles, 146th Battalion, and fought at Vimy Ridge and at Passchendaele (where he lost a leg). He died when I was too young to appreciate what he and his buddies went through and accomplished over there. I don't want to get into whether it is a good or bad political decision to be sending our soldiers into Afghanistan today but I do appreciate the way you show support for them on Coach's Corner. Keep up the good work.

My comment has nothing to do with hockey, but everything with Don Cherry's "support the troops" propaganda. Could someone at Hockey Night in Canada please tell him to stick to what he knows i.e. hockey, and refrain from talking about what he considers to be "the most wonderful guys in the world", just because they're soldiers fighting in Afghanistan? If he wants to talk politics and justify the presence of Canadian troops in Afghanistan, ask him to get hired by the Globe and Mail or the National Post. I submit this comment knowing full well that it's to no avail, but I submit it nevertheless.
Thank you!

Can the Canucks beat the Ducks. My answer Yes! I believe they can it's whether they can get some offence going and score some goals no good if it's just an almost effort.

Shirley, Vines is one of the best coaches the the NHL. He keeps changing lines to see who is hot and going to connect with each other. Where has Naslund, Morrisson, Sedin twins gone. If the Canucks have any chance at all these players have to show up and play there guts out. They didn't do anything last night. Great chance to start the game with the lead. The PP stinks. Naslund looks like he wants to go home. Hes no better than a 4th line center now. Vines will have them pumped for game 2. Lets Go Canucks.

Mr Cherry: I'm about your age (young) so have been watching hockey for many years. Has anyone besides me noticed that my team (Canucks) have no set lines? This poor excuse for a coach hasn't got a clue so keeps changing players every few minutes it seems and the players have no chemistry due to this stupidity. The Canucks are the only team in the NHL that don't have any lines to refer to in any play because he's always changing players in a hit & miss fashion. Vigneault is the worst "coach" I've ever seen and has been riding on Luongo's back too long. Thanks

Dear Ron and Don, I am still stunned that CBC did not air the first game between The Rangers and The Sabres. I know Ron that you will no doubt have some digestable excuse for us the fans. But the truth is there is no legitimate excuse for this travisty.
Do you guys really wanna what's wrong with hockey today? Well it's not the fighting, the calls by the referees, or the many number of things you talk about between periods... It's that your not giving Canadian kids a chance to watch and learn the game they love. Shame on The CBC.

Something needs to be said at least about the AWFUL officiating in Game 7 because it hurts the integrity of the game. And the calls went both ways, although Dallas was on the receiving end of more bad calls. In general, it was simply officiating incompentence. They should go to the NBA, where they belong.

With regards to Don Cherry's opinion of the Canucks' choice of uniform in Game 7: since when has Don Cherry been a fashion consultant? It doesn't take a coutourier to see that his choice of suit is anything but fashionable. Please look in the mirror, Don, before you judge others' attire. And, are you trying to say that Bob Dailey, Jack Maclehargey, and Harold Snepts looked "weak" when they proudly donned these classic jerseys? Think Don! Think before you make ridiculous comments that further alienate you from non-Leaf fans!

I am deeply disappointed in Grapes comments about the Wings/Flames game 6 on Saturday. The "few love-taps" as you put it, were in reality a lot of immature nonsense from a lesser skilled and lesser humane team. Calgary should take a hard look at themselves and in my opinion need anger management training. I know you'll think I'm some kinda softie but that is far from the truth; I played hockey, I love the game, and the physical aspects of the game is something I truely love. What went on that night was shameful, it once again gives the narrow-minded media something to jump all over about our quote "vicious game". Rabbit-punches are also intolerable (Langkow on Lebda), butt-ends WRONG (Iginla on Schneider) and the topper, coaches that send in junk pieces of MEAT to swing their goal stick like butchers and make blatent contact. I like your comments for thw most part Don, but you sir were wrong. Thank you Red Wings for putting those thugs on the shelf in '07. Go DETROIT!!

I also disagree. Where does Cherry get off saying that he hates the Canuck's "Powder Blue' sweaters? when there isn't alot of difference between the Canuck's blue sweaters and Cherry's beloved Leaf's blue sweaters. The Canuck's blue sweaters have definitely got more class and I also prefer the blue sweaters over the silly Orca sweaters. Especially since Orca Bay no longer owns the team.

Former Halifax woman dies trying to rescue drowning boy
KEMPTVILLE, Ont. — A former Halifax woman is being called a hero after she died trying to rescue a boy who drowned in the Rideau River in eastern Ontario.
Roxanne Lalonde, 32, a 12-year military member who worked in naval communications, drowned along with the 15-year-old boy who’d been swept away by strong currents near Merrickville on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Her rank was not immediately known.
Lalonde lived in Halifax for about five years and left for a new posting in Kingston, Ont., about six months ago.
"She was an extremely vibrant individual," she said. "She was always there to help people. For her to jump out there and help this young kid in need, it really doesn’t surprise me."
"She’s definitely a hero."
She remembers Lalonde as an athletic woman who liked Halifax and knew a lot of people.
"She was just one of those people that you meet and you remember."
According to a story on the Ottawa Sun website, Lalonde was driving with her common-law husband Mike Barr and saw the boy’s worried mother.
Barr told the Sun that Lalonde got in the water as soon as she heard the boy, Grant Gallipeau, was in trouble. She apparently slipped and was quickly swept away.
Firefighters arrived and used a canoe taken from a nearby house to find Lalonde. Barr later helped pull her from the water and he worked to revive her with CPR. He assisted others in pulling the boy from the water, too.
Lalonde was rushed to hospital but was declared brain-dead before midnight.
Her family chose to take her off life support.
Her uncle, Donald Bles, said his niece was in "very good physical shape" and it would have taken a "raging river to take her."

Dear Don,
I hoped you watched the playoffs with the certainty that the leauge really needs someone to make sure the refs ar doing their job. There is way to much inconsistency in the playoffs from game to game and it seems that millions of fans would agree. Vancouver played a medium, lackluster performance to win the series, and i hope the Sundin twins realize there are more players on the ice than themselves.Round the boards and dasher aint gonna cut it next series against Anihiem. In spite of the matter theres more penalties called on the enemy than there is on the foe.Look closely at the next series Don, tell me if there needs to be a "Referee Accountabilty Panel", or at least admit that these seven game series of senseless debocatry from the officials basically means that there is more money to be made for sponsers and networks, as well as owners and G.Ms.and the entire league. It is time that I may have to set up a blog and take a poll myself, contact the leauge myself and make the staement made by myself because you dont have the balls to jepordize your paycheck! There will be accountabilty some day enforced by the N.H.L upon officials....PERIOD!!!!!

I missed your intermission show last night and I understand comments were made about the jerseys worn by Vancouver in game 7. I agree from what I was told of your comments made about those jerseys. What or who ever made the decision to wear such a joke of a jersey in a game 7 of a Stanley Cup quarter final.
I hope the Vancouver franchise wakes up and realizes that jersey should be buried with all the other bad memories of the early Vancouver hockey club. They certainly have no part in the teams success in 2007.

Let me start by saying Go 'Nucks and I am happy they won.
Don, we love ya and unlike Ron you will tell it the way it is instead of blowing kisses Bettmans way.
The Reffing was once again horrible. They miss a huge check from behind on Morrison, a bump on Turco, both refs aor getting it from both benches, so what do they do/
One ref calls a penalty, then the 2nd refs calls a penalty...the parade starts on both. It is embarrasing. I accually turned the Tv off for a little bit, cause the wife got worried about my Heart. Don. PLEASE challage Bettman and the league to start either making the refs Respondable instead of defending them just because Bettman put another cheif on the ice. He diluted the quality of the refs, and now we get "Blimd eye" Mcgough's refing instead of the experience of Fraser? Set them straight Don and we miss picures of your dogs.

Don - I agree with others. A pro coach, no matter how upset he is, should act like a pro on TV.

Would like to hear your thoughts on the McLennan suspension. As far as I am concerned its to much. I have grown up watching more hockey in the "new" NHL. I turned on the TV the other day and watched a 1989 game between the oilers and flames. Now that was hockey. What McLennan did happened several times a game and there were not even penalties call, never mine suspensions. I am finding it hard to watch a NHL game now and would rather go down to the local rink and watch a Junior B game. Everyone playing the game should now that if you come within a stick length of the crease, you are going to get some wood laid on you, its part of the game.

One referee is the way the game was meant to be called, and Ive never seen such a terrible job as in this years playoffs. to have a game that close decided by a stick on a glove that did not impede h sedins progress in any way, is b.s. games are not being decided by the teams playing, but by officials. shame on the nhl for allowing this to happen. maybe we need another riot (the rocket richard incident) to wake up the idiots that run the so-called n.h.l. signed... disgusted.

When you have great goaltending Luongo, Bodeur, Patrick Roy, Ken Dryden you need not score alot of goals! You just need to not to make alot of mistakes! This was proven by great Montreal teams, New Jersey teams. If you got a team that can put the points up like Edmonton of the Eighties, Gretzky, Messier, Coffey, Kurri then you can outpoint your opponent! Rick Wilson

Dallas fought back from a 3-1 deficit only to have the entire game, the entire series and the entire season decided by a referee duo. This is a complete farce. There was phantom calls (high stick on dallas), five on threes and the second dallas would get a powerplay the referee duo would cancel it out with a dallas penalty resulting in a 4 on 4. This was such a farce that myself and my 60 year old father who stayed up till 1am to watch this huge game have both said this is the last straw. We will never watch another game until the NHL gets their heads together and stops having referee's decide games, especially game sevens! Monstrous officiating.

Grapes,
I think something should be mentioned about the play of Brent Sopel from Vancouver. THe play he made with less than 5 mins to go in game 7 to move just enough to give Luongo a clear view of what could have been a tough screened shot. Keeping in mind the same type of goal beat Kiprusoff and knocked out the Flames lastnight.
I think someone should have made more mention of just how smart of a hockey play that really was.

Don,
I have to disagree - I LOVE the classic blue Canucks uniforms. Simple, standard stripes, beats the busy new mosaic with too many colours. Everybody and there brother wears black. And, maybe it's the TV, but I don't see a whole lot of difference between the Canucks blue and the Maple Laughs blue - if anything the Canucks is darker as opposed to the royal blue of Toronto.
I'm pulling for a Sabres(in their classic blue)/Rangers final in the East, and a Redwings/Canucks final in the West.
Enjoy!
