Lecavalier a throwback

Play Video: Lecavalier a throwback

Don salutes the thousands of Hockey Day volunteers and calls Tampa Bay Lightning star Vincent Lecavalier a throwback to the old NHL. He also can't understand why the league refuses to implement the no-touch icing rule.

Dear DON-RON:
You've done nothing but knock the kid since he was 16, and now you're miffed because Sidney Crosby wouldn't appear on CC. Maybe the kid just proved how irrelavent and out of touch with the game you two inflated egos have become.
When I tune in to hockey coverage on any of the other sports networks, I hear very little, if any, of the anti-Crosby crap, anti-French crap, anti-visor crap or pro-goon crap that have become the trademarks of CC. My guess is that you care a lot about ratings and little about the game.
Shame on you!

I totally concur with your questioning position of the archaic stance the governors take regarding automatic icing. What is it going to take to have them come to their senses, a broken neck in the frantic struggle to touch a puck first? However I disagree with your stance regarding full face protection. It sohould be mandetory. Somehow your macho position of being a tough guy when you can spit out your teeth and skate to the bench, just doesn't make sense.

Hey Don, let me first say before I come at you with any criticism, that when it comes to hockey smarts (ie. the fundamental coaching strategies of the game itself), there are not many out there who know more than you. But I have to say this: you really gotta stop promoting fighting in the game. Yeah, the people love it...so who cares? In ancient Rome, the people loved seeing gladiators run through with swords too, but that never made it right. And besides, who do you mean by 'the people'. I'm a huge hockey fan, and I hate fighting in the game, so please don't presume to speak for every fan. More than a few of us want it scrapped. The NHL is one of the ONLY sports leagues where the officials will stand around and watch two guys duke it out. In any other sport, the officials intervene right away, and so they should. So don't rag on the few officials who do have the guts to stop such disgusting behaviour. Please, I'm begging you, stop promoting the fighting...your current stance on this is setting a bad example, especially for our country's kids. The bottom line is not 'intensity' but sportsmanship. If there's no sportsmanship, then what's the point? Contrary to what you may say, fighting and sportsmanship cannot co-exist, and to suggest that they can is in my opinion, simply ignorant and ridiculous. Thanks for your time.
