To whom it may concern. I am a father of two small boys ages 1 and 4. I began playing hockey in the outskirts of Montreal at the age of 5, and continue to play and teach my boys where I now reside in Sherwood Park, AB. My friend and manager, Kevyn Mcgregor, is the General Manager for TELUS Communications for Alberta North Central, and also has worked on his backyard hockey rink along with his neighbor (their homes back onto a man-made lake in Sherwood Park). Being a GM for TELUS, Kevyn is consistently supporting our communities and we had this idea that we could possibly host a HDIC event in Kevyn's backyard where we have a great pond hockey rink. We have the typical nets, music, heaters for spectators, and music playing from afar, as well as home floodlights so we can continue playing well into the night. We are planning to do our own 'Hockey Day in Canada' on the date specified, to help celebrate our national past-time, and beloved sport. We will be asking participants to donate food/$ for our local food bank and will be service Hot Chocolate/Tim Hortons Coffee. We are hoping to get out well over 50 to 100 people, and was wondering if there was the potential to be profiled or have a camera crew come out to join in on the fun? We will be doing this regardless, however I know that Kevyn and his neighbour have worked diligently in getting this rink going, and would love to have a good old Canadian game of pond hockey. Thank you for your consideration, and look forward to another Oiler playoff run

About Nelson, B.C.
- Find Nelson on a map
Located in the Selkirk Mountains, on the shore of Kootenay Lake in southeastern British Columbia, the city of Nelson was founded in 1886 and was originally called "Stanley" after Canada's Governor General, Lord Stanley. Nelson's hockey roots reach much further, however, producing great NHL talent including Danny Gare, Pat Price and Greg Adams. The small city was also the hometown of Lester and Frank Patrick, hockey's royal family, whom many credit with creating modern hockey with several innovations including the addition of blue lines, the forward pass, penalty shots and the playoff system.
Nelson's mayor, John Dooley, says "we are absolutely ecstatic that CBC has chosen Nelson to host Hockey Day ... This is a true winter sports community, and hockey is an integral component of culture in Nelson and the surrounding communities. It is wonderful that CBC is taking the initiative to bring their Hockey Day broadcast into rural communities such as Nelson and connecting us with the rest of Canada."
