Creating Ice Dreams in North End Halifax

What a privilege it is to have the opportunity to make an impact on your community; to do something that brings so much enjoyment to such a diverse group of people.

It is wonderful to see teenagers playing hockey with kids half their age. Children learning to skate who wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity and families spending quality time together, there are few words to explain what a sense of community this brings to our neighbourhood.

This wonderful winter activity brings the best out in people young and old. It gives some of our seniors a reason to get out and just chat with neighbours and tell their story of life in the North end. We have met our neighbours and are much richer for the experience.

It's obvious the benefits of being out in the fresh air, getting exercise, laughing with your neighbour. We have started this dream, we have the volunteer base, we have the water supply and we have proved our resolve to have outdoor ice for our community.

We just need a better facility and your Ice Dreams could provide us with that.

We are humbled by the efforts of some, yet understand that it gives them such pleasure to see parents and children together, talking, laughing and sharing memorable experiences; much like hearing of peoples fond memories of skating on local ponds.

We are trying to extend this experience to our children in order to keep the ice dreams going for years to come.
