Home Ice Advantage - Backyard Rink Winners
Having a backyard rink takes me back to the times when I was a boy in Camrose, Alberta. I used to skate down the back alley to the neighbors outdoor rink. We spent all our spare hours playing hockey. It was in our blood to be there night and day and play the great Canadian game.

Even at age 36, I still love to lace the skates and take shots on goal. I want to be able to share my childhood experiences and memories with my kids and wife and as a family build a new tradition on our own rink.

My rink is 51 feet long by 14 feet wide. A sand box and garden in the summer, this backyard space in is transformed into our backyard rink . With yellow rink board, center ice, blue lines, goal lines and faceoff dots, this rink invites all hockey lovers to take to the ice and feel like they are in the NHL. In addition, I have logos to add the professional touch to the surface.

For those late night overtime games, I have adjustable lighting, plus a fire pit to keep everyone warm during "intermissions." It is our version of the second period "Hot Stove" segment on HNIC. For those who would rather watch than play, I have also added a spectators area for all fans to cheer on their favourite family player.

I hope that the Tradition Continues ... when my children do this for their children.
