The Montreal Canadiens announced on Thursday a new one-year deal for pending restricted free agent Andrei Kostitsyn.

Terms of the deal were not announced. He made $3.25 million US last season.

Kostitsyn scored 20 goals and added 25 assists in his fourth full season with Montreal. He added two goals in seven playoff games.

"Andrei Kostitsyn is an important part of our group of forwards, and we are happy to have agreed to a contract extension with him," Canadiens general manager Pierre Gautier said in a statement. "As a player drafted and developed by the Canadiens organization, Andrei ranks year after year amongst our point leaders."

The 25-year-old Belarussian has totalled 87 goals, 99 assists and 155 penalty minutes in 326 career regular season games. He was selected 10th overall by the Canadiens in the 2003 NHL entry draft.

Gauthier still has several decisions to make, with five defencemen unrestricted free agents, including Andrei Markov and James Wisniewski.

The team's restricted free agents include Josh Gorges and Max Pacioretty.
