Gagner named NHL's top rookie for February
Sam Gagner is showing no signs of slowing down late in the National Hockey League season.
The Edmonton Oilers centre was named February's rookie of the month on Tuesday after topping all freshmen with 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) in 12 games.
Gagner, 18, edged New York Rangers centre Brandon Dubinsky, Phoenix Coyotes centre Peter Mueller, Chicago Blackhawks centre Jonathan Toews and Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price for the award.
Gagner entered Tuesday's home game against Nashville fourth in Oilers scoring with 35 points in 63 games.
The London, Ont., native was selected by Edmonton with the sixth overall pick at last summer's NHL entry draft.
