The Calgary Flames officially signed forward Nigel Dawes on Monday.

The Flames picked up Dawes last week off waivers from the Phoenix Coyotes, who had only just acquired him at the March trade deadline as part of a four-player deal with the New York Rangers.

The Winnipeg native scored 10 goals and 11 assists in 64 games with the two clubs last season.

Over the course of a nearly three-year career, Dawes has tallied 25 goals and 26 assists in 133 games, with 25 penalty minutes

The 24-year-old was a restricted free agent who chose to pursue salary arbitration, which is why the Coyotes elected to put him on waivers.

Dawes was scheduled to have his arbitration hearing next week, but that won't be necessary after he signed a new deal with the Flames.

Dawes was originally selected by the Rangers in the fifth round (149th overall) in the 2003 NHL draft.
