Bud McCaig, a prominent Calgary philanthropist and part-owner of the NHL's Flames, has died.

The 75-year-old chairman of Trimac Corp. died at his vacation home in the Barbados.

J.R. (Bud) McCaig had been part of Trimac, a transportation company, since it was founded in 1945 under the name Maccam Transport.

He has served on the boards of Trimac, Bantrel Inc., Brookfield Properties Corp. and Cameco Corp., and was awarded the Order of Canada in 1999.
