Detroit Red Wings forward Sergei Fedorov admitted he married tennis star Anna Kournikova, but the two are now divorced.
Fedorov, 33, revealed his former marriage to 21-year-old Kournikova in the March 14 issue of The Hockey News.
"We were married, albeit brief, and we are now divorced," Fedorov said. "I don't keep in touch with her and I'm not going to be dating anyone for a while."
"He was married to her," confirmed Pat Brisson, Fedorov's agent.
"I honestly don't know when he got married to her. All I know is that he was married.
"He's kind of surprised that everyone's asking him the same question."
The Russian duo had a highly public relationship, though the exact status of their union was always shrouded in mystery.
"I still don't know what it was," Fedorov continued. "I read only in magazines what was going on and I, basically, tried to break up.
"But she had an explanation and I really believed that it was true and I, sort of, we patched things up."
Fedorov also discussed his future with the Red Wings in the interview.
He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free-agent July 1.
"It's not even an issue for me at this point," Fedorov said. "I'm confident that with my new representation from (International Management Group) that a deal to keep me in Detroit will be able to get worked out."
