The Toronto Maple Leafs announced via their Twitter feed Friday that former Atlanta general manager Rick Dudley has joined the organization.

The Leafs did not specify the position and what role Dudley would play. He was officially let go as general manager nearly three weeks ago when the Atlanta Thrashers transitioned to their new home in Winnipeg.

True North Sports & Entertainment, the Winnipeg owners, decided to offer the GM position to Kevin Cheveldayoff.

The 62-year-old Dudley completed one season as GM in Atlanta, after five seasons spent in Chicago's front office.

Between 1998 and 2004, he had turns as GM with Ottawa, Tampa Bay and Florida. The Toronto native also has NHL coaching experience, with the Panthers and Buffalo.
