CHL playoffs: Joel Wigle lifts Otters to series sweep of Greyhounds
Erie overcomes 2-0, 2nd-period deficit
Joel Wigle scored 7:22 into overtime as the Erie Otters edged the visiting Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 3-2 on Tuesday in Ontario Hockey League playoff action.
Connor Brown and Andre Burokovsky also scored for the Otters, who swept the second-round series 4-0, while Brendan Gaunce and Kurtis MacDermid each tacked on two assists.
Darnell Nurse and Sergey Tolchinksy supplied the scoring for the Greyhounds, who led 2-0 midway through the second period before surrendering three unanswered goals.
Erie's Devin Williams made 31 saves for the win as Matt Murray stopped 35 of 38 shots for Sault Ste. Marie.
Storm 4, Knights 2
LONDON, Ont. — Phil Baltisberger and Robby Fabbri each had a pair of goals as Guelph doubled the Knights to take a 2-1 lead in their second-round pairing.
Kerby Rychel chipped in with three assists for the Storm while Justin Nichols made 39 saves for the victory.
At the other end of the ice, London netminder Jake Patterson gave his club a chance to win by turning aside 47 of 50 shots.
Bo Horvat and Chris Tierney scored for the Knights.
Generals 3, Petes 1
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. — Daniel Altshuller stopped 36 shots as Oshawa held off the Petes to go up 3-0 in its Round 2 matchup.
Cole Cassels scored twice for the Generals, including one into an empty net, while Aidan Wallace added another empty-net goal in the final minute of regulation.
Greg Betzold scored the lone goal for Peterborough.
Petes goaltender Andrew D'Agostini kicked out 28 of 29 shots in defeat.
Colts 2, Battalion 1
BARRIE, Ont. — Zach Hall's short-handed goal at 8:03 of the second period stood up as the winner as the Colts took Game 3 against North Bay for their first win of the second-round series.
Jake Dotchin also scored for Barrie, which trails the series 2-1. Mackenzie Blackwood made 20 saves for the win.
Alex Henriksson scored for the Battalion.
North Bay's Jake Smith stopped 30 of 32 shots in a losing cause.
Armada 2, Oceanic 1
BOISBRIAND, Que. — Nikita Jevpalovs scored 6:22 into the second overtime as the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada edged the visiting Rimouski Oceanic 2-1.
Christopher Clapperton also scored for the Armada while Jevpalovs tacked on an assist for a two-point outing.
Frederik Gauthier scored the lone goal for the Oceanic, who lead the second-round series 2-1.
Blainville-Boisbriand's Etienne Marcoux made 38 saves for the win as Philippe Desrosiers stopped 47 of 49 shots in a losing cause.
Foreurs 5, Voltigeurs 2
DRUMMONDVILLE, Que. — Anthony Mantha scored twice and Samuel Henley had a goal and two assists as Val-d'Or beat the Voltigeurs to go ahead 2-1 in its second-round series.
Phil Pietroniro and Louick Marcotte also scored for the Foreurs and Antoine Bibeau made 24 saves for the win.
Joey Ratelle scored both goals for Drummondville.
Louis-Philip Guindon gave up five goals on 27 shots for the Voltigeurs.
Drakkar 4, Huskies 2
ROUYN-NORANDA, Que. — Frederic Gamelin had a goal and an assist and Philippe Cadorette made 24 saves as Baie-Comeau doubled up the Huskies for a commanding 3-0 second-round series lead.
Alexandre Ranger, Gabriel Verpaelst and Charles Hudon also scored for the Drakkar.
Jean-Sebastien Dea and Redgie Bois supplied the goals for Rouyn-Noranda.
Huskies goaltender Alexandre Belanger stopped 29 of 33 shots in a losing cause.
Olympiques 5, Mooseheads 2
GATINEAU, Que. — Robert Steeves made 25 stops and Vincent Dunn had a goal and an assist as the Olympiques beat Halifax in Game 3 of their second-round clash.
Vaclav Karabacek, Taylor Burke, Emile Poirier and Alexis Pepin also scored for Gatineau. Elie Berube had two assists.
Jonathan Drouin scored both goals for the Mooseheads, who lead the series 2-1.
Halifax's Zachary Fucale turned away 26 of 30 shots in defeat.
Rockets 5, Thunderbirds 4
KENT, Wash. — Madison Bowey scored once and set up Justin Kirkland's winner at 6:07 of the third period as the Kelowna Rockets edged the host Seattle Thunderbirds 5-4 in Western Hockey League playoff action.
Tyrell Goulbourne, Tyson Baillie and Ryan Olsen also scored for the Rockets, who lead the second-round matchup 3-0.
Kelowna's Jordon Cooke made 28 saves for the victory.
Adam Henry, Justin Hickman, Alexander Delnov and Ethan Bear supplied the scoring for the Thunderbirds while Taran Kozun kicked out 27 of 32 shots in defeat.
Oil Kings 5, Wheat Kings 2
BRANDON — Tristan Jarry made 32 saves and five different players scored for Edmonton as the Oil Kings took Game 3 against the Wheat Kings in their Round 2 matchup.
Ashton Sautner, Luke Bertolucci, Riley Kieser, Curtis Lazar and Mitchell Moroz scored for Edmonton while Moroz tacked on two assists for a three-point outing.
John Quenneville and Richard Nejezchleb scored for Brandon.
Jordan Papirny turned away 38 of 42 shots for the Wheat Kings.
Winterhawks 4, Royals 3
VICTORIA — Brendan Leispic scored twice as Portland came from behind to defeat the Royals in Game 4 of its second-round clash.
Chase De Leo scored the eventual winner for the Winterhawks, who lead the series 3-1, and Adam Rossignol had the other.
Steven Hodges, Tyler Soy and Taylor Crunk scored for Victoria, which led 3-2 early in the third period.
Portland's Brendan Burke made 25 saves for the win as Patrik Polivka stopped 34 of 38 shots for the Royals.
