The Vancouver Canucks signed University of Minnesota-Duluth defenceman Evan Oberg on Friday.

Oberg, 21, finished second among Bulldogs defencemen with 27 points (seven goals) in 43 games this season.

The six-foot, 170-pound free agent from Canmore, Alta., was named to the NCAA West Regional all-tournament team after Minnesota-Duluth lost to Miami (Ohio) University in the regional final.

Oberg spent two years at Minnesota-Duluth after playing two seasons with the Camrose Kodiaks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

The Canucks lead the NHL's Northwest Division by two points heading into Friday's action. Vancouver plays its final regular-season game on Saturday afternoon at Colorado.
