Vancouver Canucks winger Mikael Samuelsson was named the NHL's first star of the week on Monday after leading all scorers with 10 points in four games.

Phoenix Coyotes winger Lee Stempniak earned second-star honours with five goals over the past week, while Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne was named the third star after notching a pair of wins, including a shutout.

Samuelsson's six goals and four assists last week helped Vancouver (43-23-3) extend its lead in the Northwest Division to five points. He racked up a season-high four points with a hat trick and an assist in last Tuesday's 6-4 road win over division-rival Colorado, and added a goal and a helper in a 4-3 shootout loss in Phoenix the next day.

Samuelsson had a pair of goals and an assist Saturday night as the Canucks celebrated their return home from an NHL-record 14-game road trip by routing Ottawa 5-1. He finished off the week by setting up a goal in Sunday's 3-1 victory over Calgary.

The 33-year-old has already reached career highs in goals (30) and points (53) with 13 games left in the regular season.
