The Montreal Canadiens assigned five players to their affiliate in the American Hockey League on Tuesday.

Heading to the Hamilton Bulldogs are Ben Maxwell, Mathieu Carle, Tom Pyatt, Curtis Sanford and Yannick Weber.

While none of the moves are particularly surprsing, Maxwell impressed in the pre-season.

The second-round draft pick in 2006 played in seven games with the Canadiens last year and will head to Hamilton for his second AHL season.

Sanford is a veteran of 108 NHL games and was signed by the club as a No. 3 goaltender.
