A statement published on the Moscow Dynamo website Thursday said Montreal Canadiens prospect Pavel Valentenko has signed a three-year contract with the Kontinental Hockey League team.

Valentenko, 21, spent last season with Montreal's American Hockey League affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs. Prior to that, the defenceman played two seasons with Nizhnekamsk Neftekhimik of the now-defunct Russian Super League.

Earlier this month, Valentenko left the Bulldogs after the Canadiens gave him permission to return home to Russia for an indefinite period of time to deal with family issues.

A fifth-round pick (139th overall) in the 2006 draft, Valentenko was seen as one of Montreal's most NHL-ready defensive prospects.
