Chicago Blackhawks forward Rene Bourque is expected to miss three to six weeks of games after having surgery to repair a deep lacerationto his neck.
Bourque was injured during Chicago's 1-0 win over Columbus on Sunday. He cut his neck on the skate blade of Blue Jackets forward Nikolai Zherdev during a second-period pileup in the Blackhawks' crease.
The six-foot-two, 213-pound left-winger was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital for surgery. He may be released Monday or Tuesday, theBlackhawks said.
Bourque, 24, has four goals andeight pointsin 16 games this season. He tallied 16 goals and 34 points in 77 games with the Blackhawks last season, his first in the NHL.
