Just who are the most-skilled players?

The two teams of NHL all-stars and rookies will participate in six events: Fastest Skater, Breakaway Challenge, Accuracy Shooting, Challenge Relay, Hardest Shot, Elimination Shootout.

Points will be awarded to the teams based on their performance in each event, and in the event of a tie after six events, the captains will compete in a shootout to determine the winning team.

The Super Skills competition will take place on Jan. 29 (CBC, CBCSports.ca, 6:30 p.m. ET).

st louis-skill.jpgFastest Skater: The contest will consist of six preliminary races with two players skating at one time taking one lap of the ice; the players from each team with the fastest time will then meet in one final match race.

Breakaway Challenge: Three shooters from each team - one Rookie and two all-stars - and one goalie will participate. Three skaters from each team will attempt four shots each - with no limits. Shooters can start their attempt from anywhere with full access to the offensive zone, including behind the net. NHL penalty shot rules do not apply. Fans on site and those watching on television can vote for the top three shooters.

Accuracy Shooting: A total of six players from each team, including one Rookie and five all-stars, compete with the objective being to hit all of the targets in the fastest time..

Challenge Relay: An all-around competition involving 16 players for each team. The relay will showcase the one-timer, passing, puck control, stick-handling and accuracy shooting in four exciting relays. In the one-timer event, three shooters must score three goals over an eight inch barrier; in the passing event, one passer must complete a pass into each of the six nets set up around the rink; in the puck control event, one skater will skate through a series of cones while keeping possession of the puck; in the stick handling event, one skater will control the puck through a series of obstacles; and in the accuracy shooting event, one player will take aim at four targets. Each skill must be completed before moving on to the next skill in this timed relay event.

Hardest Shot: Six players from each team, including one Rookie and five all-stars, compete in head-to-head matches. The highest recorded shot - measured by radar in miles per hour - will be the winner.

Elimination Shootout: All skaters compete, with the goalies rotating after every third shooter. Shooters who score move on to the next round, with the competition continuing until there is just one shooter left.
