Aside from winning six of seven games during the middle part of the season, the Stampeders began and ended the year with inconsistent play that was mostly attributed to their offence.
While much was made of Calgary's end zone celebrations, the receiving unit failed to live up to expectations. Nik Lewis and Jeremaine Copeland finished in the top 10 in receiving, but neither reached double digit touchdowns and weren't the playmakers the team expected them to be at the beginning of the year.
However, the struggling passing game didn't affect the rushing production of Joffrey Reynolds. The Stampeders running back finished second in league rushing with 1,541 yards and concluded the season gaining at least 100 yards in three of his last four games.
The Stampeders also had the best kicker in the CFL this season, a position that is crucial for post-season success.
Sandro DeAngelis broke Mark McLaughlin's club record by kicking 56 field goals this year and led the league with 214 points. Defensively, the Stampeders finished near the middle of the pack in most categories, but made a big impact in the turnover department. Calgary ranked third with 47 takeaways and second in forced fumbles with 19.
Individually, linebacker Brian Clark led the CFL with six forced fumbles while defensive back Coby Rhinehart finished tied for third with seven interceptions. The Stampeders also concluded a successful season at McMahon Stadium, which should give them an advantage in their semifinal matchup against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Stampeders tied B.C. with the best home record in CFL (8-1), including a 23-7 victory over Saskatchewan on Aug. 5.
