U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson headlines the early list of players who have committed to play at next month's RBC Canadian Open at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club.
Simpson, currently ranked fifth in the world, picked up his first career major victory last weekend at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.
The three-time PGA Tour winner is joined on the list by defending champion Sean O'Hair, Matt Kuchar, Hunter Mahan, Ernie Els, Michael Thompson, Fredrik Jacobsen, Retief Goosen and two-time Canadian Open champion Jim Furyk.
Several Canadians have confirmed their intention to play. They include Mike Weir of Bright's Grove, Ont., Calgary's Stephen Ames, Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, Sask., and David Hearn of Brantford, Ont.
Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ont., and Rob Couture of Trenton, Ont., have already qualified. Hughes won the 2011 Canadian Men's Amateur Championship while Couture secured a spot by winning the 2011 Canadian Men's Mid-Amateur Championship.
This will be the 103rd edition of the Canadian Open, the third-oldest national open golf championship after the British Open and the U.S. Open. First-round play at the US$5.2-million event begins July 26.
