Name the last Canadian to win golf’s U.S. Open?
Um, well … uh … let me see.
Oh yeah, Mike Weir?
Yes, the Bright’s Grove, Ont., native has won a major tournament, but it was at the Masters in 2003.
The correct answer is no Canadians have ever won the U.S. Open, which dates to 1895.
Weir, 43, will play at least the first rounds of this week’s Open in Ardmore, Pa., near Philadelphia, as the first qualifying alternate after losing in a playoff at the main qualifier in Columbus, Ohio. He last played in the U.S. Open in 2010.
Rookie pro Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ont., PGA Tour veteran David Hearn of Brantford, Ont., and Web.com Tour players Adam Hadwin of Abbottsford, B.C., and Ryan Yip of Calgary are the other Canadians to join Weir in Pennsylvania in hopes of being the answer to a trivia question.
