The New York Giants placed backup quarterback Jim Sorgi on season-ending injured reserve on Tuesday.

Sorgi had been signed in the offseason to back up Eli Manning, but suffered a shoulder injury against the New York Jets in preseason action earlier this month.

The Giants have Rhett Bomar and Dominic Randolph on their roster, but neither has regular season NFL experience.

Sorgi, 29, served as a reserve to Eli's older brother, Peyton, for six seasons in Indianapolis, throwing six touchdowns and one interception in limited duty over the years.

New York also put wide receiver Sinorice Moss on IR Tuesday because of a sports hernia.

The Giants open their regular season with a home game against Carolina on Sept. 12.
